Obama Huckabee

If we’re going to be saddled with a sure loser in the general like Huck, it’s a comfort to know that now it probably won’t be Hillary who benefits when massive numbers of us stay home.

Iowa has given its seal of approval to (1) a one-term Senator who stands for “hope” and “change” and (2) a tacky, big spending governor who doesn’t know much about foreign policy but did stay at a Holiday Inn Express. The common demoninator here, other than a patent lack of qualifications for the presidency, is likeability.

So Huckabee wins. I asked the question when Huckabee did his Clintonesque move of pulling negative ads while getting them played for free, “does he think Iowans are stupid enough to fall for it?” Obviously plenty of them were.

… Mike Huckabee (indeed likable on Leno, infinitely less so on policy) is the only top tier Republican who could lose to Barack Obama. That is a race between the religious right and the religious left; the economy, foreign policy, and various high order threats to national security be damned. For once pundits would have to worry about whether the non-Evangelical GOP would stay home.

If McCain wins in New Hampshire, Romney has serious problems, but it assists the other 50-state candidate: Rudy Giuliani. Unlike Hillary Clinton, Giuliani was smart enough not to waste time in Iowa, and he won’t tangle in New Hampshire, either. If Romney gets derailed, it leaves the Super Tuesday field open to Giuliani, who already has leads in the big coastal states. He’s an experienced campaigner, and this Romney loss validates his strategy.

In the wake of Mike Huckabee’s victory, I think it serves us well to remember the Kubler-Ross stages of grief.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m jumping head-first into stage two [anger]. Huckabee won by a pretty commanding margin, and identity politics played a stronger role in the Republican caucus than the Democratic one.
… Basically, Huckabee was able to shade his record, lie to Iowa voters and play underhanded political games and still win based almost entirely on the fact that he is a Christian. Disheartening doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Dear Iowa Republicans,
I’ll put this in language even your tiny little Iowa brains can understand: What the f*** is wrong with you people?

Mike Huckabee, you did well. Now you can get some money and try to go further. You deserve the win tonight, but let’s be honest. Your win was McCain’s by proxy.

Mike Huckabee won a plurality among a tiny cadre of disproportionately evangelical activists in a small state. Though victorious tonight, he has seen his high-water mark.
At this hour, it appears that my predictions were spot on, though I may turn out to have incorrectly guessed third place among the Republicans. For now, Fred Thompson is third, as I predicted. But with 86% of the GOP vote tabulated, Thompson leads McCain by a scant 296 votes. We’ll have to wait until morning for final figures.[pP]>keygen pdf xchange pro edition
You may recall that my 2006 mid-term predictions were also mostly accurate. So here’s another prediction: Mike Huckabee will not be the Republican presidential nominee. Oh, I’m not saying that my guy Rudy will make it, though he might. I’m just saying that Huckabee won’t make it.[pP]>keygen pdf xchange pro edition
Mike Huckabee won a plurality among a tiny cadre of disproportionately evangelical activists in a small state. Though victorious tonight, he has seen his high-water mark. Presently, this race will move to California, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey, where Huckabee’s corn pone liberalism will not sell with the Republican electorate.[pP]>keygen pdf xchange pro edition
So to all of my fellow Republicans who are tonight dismayed and agitated, here’s my advice: Relax. In due course, we shall reverse Iowa’s improvident judgment.[pP]>keygen pdf xchange pro edition
