Why hospitals need private rooms
Forgive me as I digress here from politics. But as a nurse, I’m telling you this is an excellent, overdue idea:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Private rooms would be standard in new U.S. hospitals under recommendations from an influential architects’ group that says building design can help curb infectious diseases and medical errors.
Recommendations on hospital design from the American Institute of Architects are used as the basis for regulations in 42 states, and private rooms are increasingly favored by hospitals nationwide to address safety, noise and privacy issues, said Dale Woodin of the American Hospital Association.
Private hospital rooms offer three advantages over wards or semi-private rooms:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
dignity and quiet for you or your loved one during what is usually a stressful, painful and embarrassing time of life;[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
a reduction in hospital-acquired infections, which kill 90,000 Americans every year;[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
fewer medical errors from doctors and nurses misidentifying patients.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Hospitals aren’t yet required to offer private rooms. And it would in any event take many years before every hospital had them. So don’t expect one on your next visit. But at least the Nation’s architects have set us on the right path.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

In a comment below, “mAcChaos” links to this report in the New York Times, which reads in part:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In the past few months, nine states, including Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Indiana, have approved laws that restrict demonstrations at a funeral or burial. In addition, 23 state legislatures are getting ready to vote on similar bills, and Congress, which has received thousands of e-mail messages on the issue, expects to take up legislation in May dealing with demonstrations at federal cemeteries.
“mAcChaos” asks what I think of this: “Is it a common sense restriction or an inappropriate infringement on our First Amendment rights?”[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I think the answer turns on the particulars of a given statute. Since I haven’t read any of the bills or statutes to which the Times refers, I can’t comment on them. But as a general proposition, I doubt the ratifiers of the First Amendment would have understood it to prevent state-level regulation of the sort of obscenity Fred Phelps and his relatives engage in. But that’s just my opinion; it’s not the law. For an informative overview of extant First Amendment law as it might relate to restrictions on funeral protests, see this article by Professor Eugene Volokh.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

U.S. voting machines programmed in Venezuela?!
Unbelievable:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The greater threat to our nation’s security comes not from Dubai and its pro-Western government, but from Venezuela, where software engineers with links to the leftist, anti-American regime of Hugo Chávez are programming electronic voting machines that will soon power U.S. elections.
Congress spent two weeks overreacting to news that Dubai Ports World would operate several American ports, including Miami’s, but a better target for their hysteria would be the acquisition by Smartmatic International of California-based Sequoia Voting Systems, whose machines serve millions of U.S. voters. That Smartmatic — which has been accused by Venezuela’s opposition of helping Chávez rig elections in his favor — now controls a major U.S. e-voting firm should give pause to anybody who thinks that replacing our antiquated butterfly ballots and hanging chads will restore Americans’ faith in our electoral process.

Here’s why you can’t get your calls answered
And you thought they just didn’t care. In fact, they’re, uh, busy:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
They are the young faces and polite voices of India’s economic boom but the country’s growing number of call centre staff handling British and American customer inquiries have a guilty secret.
According to senior police officers and pollsters they are also leading a social revolution against traditional Indian values by having extramarital affairs and taking party drugs.
A survey found that one in five of those questioned had had a workplace affair and that the majority of those were married. In another recent poll one in four call centre staff said they regularly had casual affairs.
[…]
According to insiders the centres are generating a work-hard, play-hard culture where liberal attitudes to sex and club drugs are thriving.

Moonier: You sure did!
Male: You liked it, didn’t you?
Moonier: Of course! [Laughs.] Did you?
Male: Fuck, yeah!
Moonier: All right then.
Backstory:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
This tale begins in the wee hours of June 6, 2004, when a distraught Tamara Anne Moonier entered a Fullerton police station. She said she’d been kidnapped a few hours earlier from a parking lot at Heroes Bar & Grill, hooded and driven to an unknown residence. Moonier, then 28, told police that a group of men brutally raped her at gunpoint for more than an hour, forced her to perform numerous degrading sex acts on film, demanded her silence and then released her.
Can you hear me now?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
During the gangbang, a cell phone rang, and one of the guys answered it and calmly talked to a buddy. While Moonier had sex in the doggie-style position, the guy handed her the phone. She didn’t scream for help. She said, “Hello? This is Tammy. Yes. He’s fucking me from behind!” The guy took the phone back and gave directions to the residence. Moonier simultaneously complimented one man’s penis: “Big and nice!” Later, she said, “How many people are we calling?”
Well, you’re finished:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
While performing in the reverse cowgirl position (use your imagination), Moonier turned to the camera and said, “This better not fucking end up on the Internet unless you’re gonna give me some of the money!” Minutes later, she yelled at the guys, “Get it up!” And, “That guy can’t ejaculate … Yeah, you fucking gave up on me … And this one can’t even finish either. I’m getting kind of pissed. I just want somebody to finish.”
Moral of the story: “always videotape your sex orgies.”[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Why a college education is a lot of bunk
Bulldogpundit links to this great story about a lawyer — he rose to deputy general counsel at the New York Life Insurance Co — who had to resign because … well, he doesn’t have a law license![pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Says Bulldog:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The fact that this guy was obviously good enough to have made it as far as he did before he got caught proves what I’ve been saying for a long time - both law school (which the guy apparently went to) and the bar exam (which he must not have passed) are total wastes of time and have no bearing on whether or not someone is going to be a good lawyer.
I’d be willing to bet over half of all practicing attorney’s couldn’t pass the bar exam if they took it tomorrow (I know I couldn’t - and yes I passed the 1st time in both PA and NJ), because it has absolutely zero relevance to what they do to earn a living.
I could say the same thing about being a registered nurse. The only thing nursing school taught me was how to pass the NCLEX-RN, which I did on my first attempt in July 1994. I could not pass it today. But that’s okay because both the test and the education that prepared me to take it have nothing whatsoever to do with a being a nurse. Bulldog says he had to take a course in wills and trusts but it didn’t teach him how to write a will. I had to take a course in basic nursing procedures but it didn’t teach me how to operate an IV pump. In school, you learn a lot of theory. What you don’t learn is how to take care of patients.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
You know how you learn to be a nurse? You learn by working in a hospital where experienced nurses teach you. Everything before that — the aptitude test, the interview, the coursework, the big exam — is just hoop-jumping, designed, I suspect, to maintain the salary-raising shortage of nurses.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Screwed by a doctor
Amazing:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
A Hawaii surgeon is being sued for malpractice after he intentionally inserted a sawed-off screwdriver instead of a titanium rod into a man’s back.
Robert Ricketson said he had no choice but to implant the screwdriver into the back of Arturo Iturralde, then 73. He said he did not have the titanium rods needed to complete the operation properly.
“I didn’t feel I could risk keeping him under anesthetic with an unstable spine for two more hours,” Ricketson, who is representing himself, told the jury during his opening statement this week. “There on the back table was a sterile, stainless-steel screwdriver the same diameter as the rods I intended to use.”
The screwdriver piece snapped days after the January 2001 surgery, and Iturralde underwent three additional surgeries to insert the proper titanium rods and to repair other complications. However, Iturralde was rendered a paraplegic and died two years later.
Ricketson was busted by the surgical nurses, who “retrieved [pieces of the screwdriver] from the trash and took them to a lawyer.” [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Can you even imagine what joy must have filled that lawyer’s heart? After all, how often do OR nurses walk into his office bearing gifts?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I’m surprised Ricketson even took the case to trial, especially in light of this:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Iturralde’s family learned that before the botched surgery, Ricketson’s medical license had been suspended in Oklahoma and revoked in Texas, following a string of malpractice lawsuits and treatment for a narcotics addiction. He had also admitted to writing fake prescriptions to get drugs.
As I often remind my younger nursing colleagues, half of all doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Gay basher, cop killer caught
CNN:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
An 18-year-old suspected in hatchet attacks and shootings at a Massachusetts gay bar was captured 1,200 miles away Saturday after killing a police officer and the passenger in his vehicle, authorities said.
Jacob Robida, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, was wounded during a gunfight in Norfork, Arkansas, and taken to a hospital in Springfield, Missouri, about 130 miles away, said state police spokesman Bill Sadler. (Link)
When cornered, Robida killed the woman in his vehicle and then began shooting at police through his windshield. Police returned fire, striking Robida twice in the head; he’s in critical condition. Here’s hoping he dies in the night.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Italians to litigate existence of Christ
Associated Press (via CNN):[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
ROME — Lawyers for a small-town parish priest have been ordered to appear in court next week after the Roman Catholic cleric was accused of unlawfully asserting what many people take for granted: that Jesus Christ existed.
The Rev. Enrico Righi was named in a 2002 complaint filed by Luigi Cascioli after Righi wrote in a parish bulletin that Jesus did indeed exist, and that he was born of a couple named Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem and lived in Nazareth.
Cascioli, a lifelong atheist, claims that Righi violated two Italian laws by making the assertion: so-called “abuse of popular belief” in which someone fraudulently deceives people; and “impersonation” in which someone gains by attributing a false name to someone. (Link)
Doesn’t it seem as if atheists are often possessed of a … well … religious zeal?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Get FeedDemon!
First, to be clear: this is an uncompensated endorsement. I do not know Nick Bradbury, creator of FeedDemon; I’ve never even seen him, talked to him or exchanged e-mail with him. I just love his software. And the more I use it, the more I love it.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
FeedDemon is a news aggregator, or, if you prefer, a news reader; it “aggregates,” or collects, RSS and Atom feeds. If you don’t know what an RSS or Atom feed is, you simply must learn. Go here and here. It’s not hard.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
If you’re a blogger, an RSS reader is indispensable. For without one, you’re working a lot harder than necessary to find items to blog about.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
If you’re a blog reader, an RSS aggregator allows you to collect and organize efficiently the plethora of news and commentary available to you. It will radically simplify your online experience. You’ll no longer have to go to the news; the news will come to you.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Of all the commercially available RSS readers — you can get a lightweight for free — FeedDemon is far and away the best. It is software without a flaw. At $29.95, it’s also a steal.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
You’ll find a description of FeedDemon’s features here; screen shots are here; and a free trial version available for download is here. (Requires Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP or 2003, and IE 6 for integrated browsing.) Try it. If you don’t like it, delete it. But I’m betting you’ll like it.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

I’m glad I work for the private sector
One of the great things about being a nurse is the variety of settings in which you can practice. But not all jobs are created equal. Here’s what it means to be a nurse for the Federal Bureau of Prisons:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The incumbent is required to shakedown inmates,* conduct visual searches of inmate work and living areas for contraband, and is responsible for immediately responding to any institution emergencies. The incumbent must be prepared and trained to use physical control in situations where necessary, such as in fights among inmates, assaults on staff, and riots or escape attempts.
Umm, hmm.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The “incumbent” is also expected to hold a master’s degree and to accept a truly pathetic salary. No wonder the position is open. Word: it’s going to stay open. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

AP-Ipsos poll is misleading
The distortion:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
A majority of Americans want the Bush administration to get court approval before eavesdropping on people inside the United States, even if those calls might involve suspected terrorists, an AP-Ipsos poll shows.
The truth:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
… why did the pollsters load the survey with voters registered to the Democratic Party? That’s not mentioned in the AP story; you have to visit the Ipsos website and download an Adobe Acrobat file to see just who was questioned …
What you’ll see is that the poll is weighted to Democrats by a whopping 12 points. At best, a 4 point weighting is in order. The overrepresentation of Democrats is more than enough to account for the poll’s result since the undersampled Republicans were much more likely to say no warrant is required.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Also, 18% of the poll’s respondents are not even registered to vote. Although no data are provided on the political affiliation of these respondents, we can be confident that they are overwhelmingly Democrats; Republicans are the clerical set. So not only does the poll oversample Democrats, it also samples Democrats who don’t vote. If you don’t vote, your views are without political consequence, and people can — and should — ignore them.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I think one of the reasons Leftists are so angry is that the mendacious major media have them convinced that the American electorate is with them, and that they are on the verge of victory. And then when election day comes and things don’t turn out as advertised, their anticipation turns to bitterness.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Dead is dead
This sort of commentary perpetuates a false impression. If a person is brain dead, he is dead. Full stop.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Here’s the explanation:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Brain death is defined as a complete and irreversible cessation of brain activity. Absence of apparent brain function is not enough. Evidence of irreversibility is also required. Brain death is often confused with the state of vegetation.
Traditionally, death has been defined as the cessation of all body functions, including respiration and heartbeat. Since it became possible to revive some people after a period without respiration, heartbeat, or other visible signs of life, as well as to maintain respiration and blood flow artificially using life support treatments, an alternative definition for death was needed. In recent decades, the concept of “brain death” has emerged. By brain death criteria, a person can be pronounced legally dead even if the heart continues to beat due to life support measures. [Emphasis in original.]
If you say or write that a person is brain dead, do not imply that he is alive but seriously ill. He is dead.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
A person can be clinically dead, i.e. without a pulse or respirations, but not yet brain dead; of course, if clinical death is not presently reversed, brain death will follow.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In the days of controversy over whether her feeding tube should be removed, Terri Schiavo was not brain dead. She was in a persistent vegetative state.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
For those of us in health care who work with brain injured patients, these terms have precise meanings. It’s important that we maintain this precision. We are, after all, talking about life and death.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Planet Out:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
WASHINGTON — Gay and lesbian advocacy groups believe gay aging issues were purposefully left off the table in this week’s White House Conference on Aging.
The White House conference, held every 10 years, was strongly scripted this week to eliminate resolutions from the floor or other avenues for gay rights advocates to bring community concerns to light, gay organizational leaders said. They had hoped to broach issues like funding of elder care services for gays and lesbians and economic security for a growing number of gay seniors. [Emphasis added.]

Iraq wasn’t the first
We’ve gone to war before over bogus intelligence:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The murky events in the Gulf of Tonkin in August 1964 propelled the United States into the Vietnam War. Over three days, the U.S. government reported two attacks on its destroyers. The first assault by North Vietnamese PT boats on August 2 provoked only a protest from Washington. On the cloudy night of August 4, two U.S. ships detected another apparent ambush. They fired their guns in response, claiming to have sunk several enemy boats. The incident prompted Lyndon Johnson to order airstrikes and obtain what amounted to a declaration of war from Congress.
Within a few years, though, public doubts grew about the second incident. There was no physical evidence of an attack, though Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara assured Congress in 1968 that the intelligence was “unimpeachable.” He was referring mostly to North Vietnamese naval communications intercepted by the National Security Agency. In 1984, a U.S. News cover story quoted two top intelligence officials from the period expressing strong doubts about those reports. (More here.)
Now, a newly declassified NSA study—and over 140 formerly top secret intelligence reports—confirm just how wrong McNamara was.

Containing a flu pandemic
If the United States is hit with an outbreak of the deadly Asian bird flu, conventional infection control practices will play an important role in containing it:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
… the Pandemic Influenza Plan offers specific instructions to local health officials: The sick or the people caring for them should wear masks.

Should word come that the bird flu is making person-to-person transmission anywhere in the world — something that has not happened yet — take that as your cue to acquire a box of N95 masks. Associated Press (via MSNBC):[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
DETROIT — Rosa Lee Parks, whose refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man sparked the modern civil rights movement, died Monday. She was 92.
Mrs. Parks died at her home of natural causes, said Karen Morgan, a spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich.
Mrs. Parks was 42 when she committed an act of defiance in 1955 that was to change the course of American history and earn her the title “mother of the civil rights movement.” (Link)

Help wanted: the successful applicant will read and write English
Charles Fried, Harvard law professor, solicitor general for the Reagan Administration and former justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Court, on why justices of the U.S. Supreme Court must be to able write English:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Once a conclusion has been reached it must be announced in an opinion setting out the circumstances, the competing considerations, and the reasons for that conclusion. Otherwise the parties will feel cheated and lower court judges, lawyers, and affected interests will have no guidance in dealing with the problem in the future.
[…]
… if the justice cannot write then someone is going to have to do that writing for the justice, and that will inevitably be the justice’s law clerks. Those law clerks almost to a person are wizards at untangling legal puzzles and masters at setting out the answers in precise if usually turgid and uncompelling prose. But they are also young graduates without wisdom, experience, or a constitutional mandate to help run the country. (Link)
It’s a measure of the sadness of our current predicament that a Harvard law professor must pen a review of the painfully obvious. And it’s a mark of the degradation of our culture that some consider a demand for rudimentary skills in a Supreme Court justice to be “snobby” or “elitist.”[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Breaking: Tom DeLay has been indicted
More in due course.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
UPDATE — Sorry for the absence of blogging this evening. But I’ve been trying to reconcile Tom DeLay’s indictment for criminal conspiracy — see Texas Penal Code § 15.02 — with the Texas Election Code, a violation of which is the alleged predicate of the conspiracy.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I’ll have more tomorrow. But for now suffice to say the indictment stinks. Per Paul Burka, editor of Texas Monthly:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I doubt that the case will go to trial. It would be a difficult and technical prosecution.
Yes, very difficult. Especially since no crime has been committed.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

But based on what we know so far, there is absolutely zero reason to believe that Frist did anything wrong, or that he will or should be in any legal jeopardy.
Sen. Bill First, R-TN, is a sorry majority leader and a highly implausible presidential candidate. (His chances of winning the 2008 GOP nomination are only slightly better than my own.) But that doesn’t make him a crook — especially when, as the Crank explains well, there’s not now any basis for thinking he’s done anything wrong.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

A deadly breach of trust
CNN:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
BATON ROUGE — The owners of St. Rita’s Nursing Home in St. Bernard Parish, where 34 people drowned as Hurricane Katrina hit, have been charged with negligent homicide, Louisiana Attorney General Charles Foti Jr. said Tuesday.
Foti told reporters that Mable B. Mangano and Salvador A. Mangano Sr. surrendered to Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigators in Baton Rouge, where they charged with 34 counts of negligent homicide and jailed prior to posting bond. Each count carries up to five years in prison.
“We feel we have criminal negligence,” Foti said. “They did not follow the standards of care that a reasonable person would follow in a similar circumstance.”
He said the owners had plenty of opportunity to move their charges out of the facility. The Manganos were asked if they wanted to evacuate the building and were offered buses; in addition, they had signed last April a contract with Acadian Ambulance to provide transportation in the event an evacuation was needed, Foti said, but “they were never called.”
Authorities in the parish east of New Orleans began retrieving the bodies of the 34 people from St. Rita’s on Wednesday, nine days after the storm hit and a huge storm surge consumed the home. (Link)
The report doesn’t indicate whether any registered nurses were on duty when the patients were abandoned to the flood waters. But if so, the state should charge them as well.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I’m an RN. I also happen to know that a couple of my readers are in nursing school; for their benefit, and for the general edification of the layman, this is how it works. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In my state — and, I assume, in every state — the registered nurse has a legal and moral duty to his patients. This duty exists independent of the physician’s duty, and of the hospital’s duty. If the physician or hospital fail to do what they’re required to do, this failure does not excuse the RN from doing what he’s required to do. The nurse may draw a check from the hospital (or other institution), but the nurse doesn’t work for the hospital. He works for the board of nurse examiners, which licensed him, and for the people of his state, who put their trust in him.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Once it became clear to the nurses on duty at St. Rita’s that the administrators, whether by decision or neglect, had no plans to evacuate their patients, the nurses should have sought independently to arrange for their evacuation. And when evacuation was no longer an option, the nurses should have remained with the patients — even though it meant putting their own safety at risk. That was their duty.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Most of my colleagues are extraordinarily conscientious about their responsibilities, which may explain why Gallup rather consistently finds nurses to be the most respected professionals in America. I’m deeply sorry that this appears not to have been the case here.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Pray for New Orleans
This is serious:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I put the odds of New Orleans getting its levees breached and the city submerged at about 70%. This scenario, which has been discussed extensively in literature I have read, could result in a death toll in the thousands, since many people will be unable or unwilling to get out of the city. I recommend that if you are trapped in New Orleans tomorrow, that you wear a life jacket and a helmet if you have them. High rise buildings may offer good refuge, but Katrina has the potential to knock down a high-rise building.
UPDATE — From Jeremy Chrysler at Phog Blog (via Michelle Malkin):[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
As I write this, Hurricane Katrina is approaching New Orleans. New Orleans is about 12 feet below sea level and has always lived under a death sentence of a nightmare scenario which may very well unfold in the next 12-18 hours. Basically, if Katrina’s storm surge causes Lake Ponchartrain to flood the levees surrounding the city, New Orleans will be under 30 feet of water.
Experts say that such a scenario could lead to a death toll in the tens of thousands. Some place the toll as high as 50,000-100,000. The city has no natural drainage and some estimate that it could take up to 10 months for the lake of the dead to drain.
In short, tomorrow could be one of the deadliest days in American History. (Link)
I hope he’s overstating the danger. We’ll know in a few hours.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Hugh Hewitt explains why in the aftermath of Katrina we may be paying $4 a gallon for gas.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
But right now I’m thinking about the people stuck in New Orleans, including my colleagues in health care. The doctors and nurses who were on duty when their hospitals declared an emergency would not have been allowed to leave at the end of their shift, at least not without losing their jobs and risking their careers. But they took an oath to care for their patients, and that’s what they’ll do, even though it means they can’t be with their own families or help them to evacuate. And now they’ll work around the clock, without relief. Pray for them. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Do not call
CORRECTED
THIS POST HAS BEEN CORRECTED.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
At about this time next month, your cell phone provider is going to release your number to telemarketing companies and you may begin to receive sales calls. These calls will, of course, eat into your minutes.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
You can prevent this by adding your cell phone number to the Federal Trade Commission’s “do not call” registry. Dial 888-382-1222 from your cell phone. The process takes about 1 minute.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Alternatively, you can add your number to the registry at the Government’s “do not call” website. Once your number is registered, the block is good for five years.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
ADDED — An employee of Verizon Wireless sends e-mail to say that his company “will NOT be participating in this. Your Verizon Wireless number will remain unlisted.”[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Was Lawrence a set-up?
A forthcoming book, “Sex Appealed: Was the Supreme Court Fooled?,” explores what has long been rumored in Houston’s gay community, namely that the case resulting in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas was a set-up:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
… on the night of Sept. 17, 1998, Houston’s Harris County deputies on patrol got a message that a man with a gun was firing the weapon at a certain address. Proceeding there and receiving no answer when they called out who they were, the deputies drew their pistols and cautiously entered the apartment.Instead of someone with a gun, they encountered a man calmly talking on a phone in the kitchen. Then they opened the bedroom door and were stunned to see two men engaged in a sex act. What really shocked the officers, however, was the fact that the two men kept right on performing the sex act even after the deputies identified themselves and ordered them to stop. Finally, the deputies had to push and pull the two men apart. No gun or sign of shooting ever was found.
Now here’s the thing that has always piqued my curosity about the facts in Lawrence. As indicated above, deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to answer a ‘man with a gun’ call. But the call came from Pasadena, Houston’s largest suburb, where John Lawrence and Tyron Garner were arrested. This means the caller/complainant dialed the sheriff’s department directly; otherwise, had he dialed 911, the call would have been routed to the city police.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
A man is supposedly brandishing, if not discharging a weapon, and the caller either has handy or takes the time to look up the sheriff’s phone number — do you know your sheriff’s number? — rather than just dial 911? [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Moreover, what were sheriff’s deputies doing in Pasadena? I’ve lived in greater Houston all my life, and I grew up in the Pasadena/Deer Park area. So I know firsthand that sheriff’s deputies do not routinely patrol the incorporated cities; they patrol the unincorporated portions of the county. Now I’m not saying you’ll never see a sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the city. But it isn’t commonplace. Did these deputies have to travel from the county to John Lawrence’s apartment in Pasadena, or did they happen to already be in the city when the call came? And if so, what occasioned their presence in the city on that particular September night? And if not — if they had to travel from outside the city — shouldn’t they have called ahead to the local police, who could have arrived timely to the scene of a reportedly dangerous situation? [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The book, written by Janice Law, a former Houston criminal court judge, is still awaiting release by the publisher, so I haven’t read it yet. Perhaps she explores the role of the sheriff’s deputies. I hope so. I know I’ve always wanted to question them. For if Lawrence was indeed a set-up, as Judge Law and others believe, the conspirators could not have left the identity of the arriving officers to chance. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

So that explains it ...
Having always found the voices of men easier on the ear than those of women, I just wrote it off to being gay. But comes now word that it’s a guy thing, not a gay thing:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
LONDON — Men who are accused of never listening by women now have an excuse — women’s voices are more difficult for men to listen to than other men’s, a report said. The Daily Mail, quoting findings published in the specialist magazine NeuroImage, said researchers at Sheffield university in northern England discovered startling differences in the way the brain responds to male and female sounds.
Men deciphered female voices using the auditory part of the brain that processes music, while male voices engaged a simpler mechanism, it said.
The Mail quoted researcher Michael Hunter as saying, “The female voice is actually more complex than the male voice, due to differences in the size and shape of the vocal cords and larynx between men and women, and also due to women having greater natural ‘melody’ in their voices. This causes a more complex range of sound frequencies than in a male voice.”

Seven submarine crew members trapped for nearly three days under the Pacific Ocean were rescued Sunday after a British remote-controlled vehicle cut away the undersea cables that had snarled the vessel. The seven crew members, whose oxygen supplies had been dwindling amid underwater temperatures in the mid-40s, appeared to be in satisfactory condition, naval spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo said. The seven were being examined by ship medics, he said.
The sub surfaced late Sunday afternoon, some three days after becoming stranded in 600 feet of water off the Pacific Coast on Thursday.

At the request of Bridget Johnson at GOP Vixen, I participated in a survey (of mostly Republican bloggers) to determine the “sexiest world leader.” Judges ranked the “contestants” on a 1 to 10 scale, with the win going to the world leader who earned the highest composite score. Foreign-born troops become U.S. citizens

As one for whom the blessing of American citizenship came as birthright, this is humbling: [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
BAGHDAD — A total of 147 foreign-born US military personnel serving in Iraq gathered inside a former Saddam Hussein palace to be granted US citizenship. In a mass ceremony the soldiers, sailors, and airmen, along with one marine and a navy medic, simultaneously raised their right hands and swore to “support and defend the constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
Those sworn in as US citizens came from 46 countries, with the single largest group born in Mexico (27), followed by the Philippines (15), Jamaica (nine) and Nicaragua (eight) and Nigeria (five).
Other nations of origin included China, India, Taiwan and Vietnam. There was even one Iraqi-born soldier.
The ceremony, in the giant indoor rotunda of the Al-Faw palace, in Baghdad’s Camp Victory military base, was led by Lieutenant General John Vines, the commander of the Multinational Corps in Iraq.
[…]
“Welcome into that exclusive club called American citizenship,” Vines told the group.

A story of American compassion in Iraq
[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Houston Chronicle:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In the end, a 7-year-old Iraqi boy's long, dark eyelashes may have saved his life.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Kadhem Jawad Kathem [pictured here] is doing well after arriving in Houston last week and undergoing a five-hour operation Tuesday at Texas Children's Hospital to "replumb" his congenitally malformed heart, his surgeon said.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Purple-lipped when he arrived because of his heart's inability to adequately circulate blood through his lungs, Kadhem is showing normal blood-oxygen levels and will likely be well enough to go home in a month.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
"I am very grateful to everybody, to the American troops back in Iraq, to all Houstonians and I'm very grateful to the doctors who did the surgery" said the boy's father, Jawad Kathem, a 33-year-old mechanic from southern Iraq. Kathem, who speaks Arabic, spoke to the Associated Press through a translator.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In January, Kadhem met Maj. Brian Stevens, a civil affairs officer serving in Iraq with the Fort Worth-based 56th Brigade Combat Team, 36th Infantry Division, Texas National Guard. Stevens had arrived in a town in southern Iraq -- the exact location is confidential -- a month earlier, beginning a yearlong deployment to build schools and hospitals.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Kadhem's mother made a wrenching plea for her son, too weak to attend school or play. She gave Stevens X-rays and medical documents to take to a military doctor at the base.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
It was "those eyelashes" that captivated soldiers, said Chief Master Sgt. Gonda Moncada, Texas National Guard spokeswoman. "Obviously, many (Iraqi) children would benefit from surgery. We can't help them all."[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
[...][pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
From Kuwait, the boy traveled by commercial jet to Houston. While he went through tests and waited for his operation, Kadhem, who doesn't speak English, communicated with thumbs-up and thumb-down gestures. His fragile condition didn't keep him from developing a passion for video games at the hospital.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
According to the Chronicle, it took a lot of effort on the part of our troops to get Kadhem out of Iraq and to Houston. Those men and women are heros. And kudos to the world-class Texas Children's Hospital, Dr. Charles Fraser Jr. and Kadhem's other physicians, who took the case pro bono.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

You have requested our opinion whether the federal criminal prohibition against torture codified at 18 U.S.C. §§ 2340-2340A prohibits playing the music of Christina Aguilera ("Aguilera") to a detainee under interrogation. Nanny state: female body "obscene"
Oh, for crying out loud:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
NASHVILLE -- A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son's birthday party. Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy's father, the stripper and two others also face charges. "I tried to do something special for my son," Pharris said. "It didn't harm him."[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driverAbout 10 people under the age of 18 were at the birthday party in September, including minors who were not related to the family, authorities said.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Police spokesman Don Aaron said minors are not permitted in adult establishments.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
"A person shouldn't be allowed to circumvent that law by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors," he said.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
"Who are they to tell me what I can and can't show to my own children?" the mother said.
After reading the first sentence of the lead paragraph, I half expected to learn that the boy was gay and that the mother had been arrested for a hate crime. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Long, pointed kitchen knives should be banned as part of a concerted effort to reduce the terrible injuries and deaths caused by stabbing attacks, doctors warned today.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driverAccident and emergency medics claim the knives serve no useful purpose in the kitchen but are proving deadly on the streets of Britain, with the doctors claiming the knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings. The doctors claimed they had consulted leading chefs who said the knives were not needed for cooking - a claim disputed by chefs contacted by The Scotsman. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Latest figures from the Scottish Executive show that in 2003, 55 of 108 homicide victims were stabbed by a sharp instrument - often a kitchen knife.

Footnote 1 in the opinion of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit in United States v. Murphy:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
1 The trial transcript quotes Ms. Hayden as saying Murphy called her a snitch bitch hoe. A hoe, of course, is a tool used for weeding and gardening. In the wake of yesterday's security scare during Mr. Bush's visit to Georgia, the BBC reports on the lengths to which the U.S. goes to protect its president:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
From the moment a trip is discussed in the White House, secret service agents begin looking at the various security scenarios. Plans are worked and re-worked, taking in changing intelligence information. Advance teams of agents are then dispatched to the various destinations on the president's itinerary.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driverWhen the president does finally turn up, he does so with a small air force, a massive entourage and a motorcade of armour-plated vehicles. These include the president's bullet-proof limo, a military ambulance and a communications van packed with state-of-the art devices. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The mobile armoury in the presidential cavalcade often includes a piece of military hardware called a "mini-gun," which is fired from a tank and can kill dozens of people. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Around 250 heavily-armed secret service agents, dozens of advisers from the National Security department and teams of sniffer dogs escort Mr Bush on most foreign trips. White House cooks join government political aides. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Homosexual Republican mayor takes leave amid sex probe
Reuters:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane's Republican mayor took a leave of absence on Monday after officials seized a city computer in his home to investigate whether he used it illegally to solicit sex on gay Web sites.
Mayor James West, 54, a former state legislator known for his strong positions against gay rights and teen sex, said in a statement last week that he had explored homosexual relationships online. But he described himself as a "law-abiding citizen" said he had not broken the law.
[...][pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Spokane's morning newspaper, the Spokesman-Review, reported last week that West had sexually abused two boys 25 years ago, when they were members of West's Boy Scout troop.
The newspaper also said that West had tried to arrange a sexual liaison with a 17-year-old boy on Gay.com. The newspaper hired a consultant posing as a gay high-school student to arrange a meeting with the mayor.
After the stories appeared, West acknowledged in his statement that he had been leading "a double life" as a homosexual, but denied the newspaper's molestation claims.

When asked about his choice of wardrobe, Dick Otterstad told the Mountain Democrat, "I figure it's appropriate. This school is promoting perversity. I figure that's something the devil would do."

Todd Schwenk, a concerned parent and politician who unsuccessfully ran for the California State Assembly last year, took it upon himself to personally counteract the protesters.

He was released after being given a traffic citation.
Undeterred, Schwenk put together a make-shift sign of four letters reading "LIAR," and stood next to Otterstad yelling, "This man's a liar! He lies in the name of the Lord!"
He was answered by Otterstad's shouts, "This man's a pervert! There's a pervert workshop going on!"

This is nice work if you can get it, and I'd like to get it
An independent prosecutor has spent in excess of $21 million -- including more than $1.26 million just last year -- on an investigation that started 10 years ago. Appointed in 1995, David M. Barrett was originally charged with determing whether Henry Cisneros, then the Secretary of Housing, had lied to the FBI about money he had given to a woman who had answered his booty calls.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Mr. Cisneros pled guilty, paid a fine and was subsequently pardoned by President Clinton, and the independent counsel statute under which Mr. Barrett was appointed long ago expired. Moreover, his overseers told Mr. Barrett in March 2003 to knock it off. And yet here it is, two years later, and the man is still in business:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
They're, quote-unquote, writing the final report. That's what we were told.

I can write, and I'm hopeful Mr. Barrett might have an opening on his staff. Please send e-mail; your confidentiality is assured.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Report: Americans underpaying their taxes
Associated Press:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Americans' unpaid taxes are now topping $300 billion a year, with people who underreport their income the biggest culprits.
...[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The report Tuesday estimated the gap [between taxes owed and taxes paid] at $312 billion to $353 billion for 2001, about 15 percent of the total taxes owed. Taxpayers were slightly less likely to comply with tax laws than they had been at the time of the latest previous study, completed in 1988.
...[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The majority of unpaid-tax cases involved individuals, not businesses. Among the people who contributed to the tax gap, most understated their income, especially business income.
Excessive deductions, exemptions, credits and other adjustments accounted for $25 billion to $30 billion of the tax gap.
For three years now, I've used the software package TurboTax to file my federal return. Among other features, TurboTax allows you to compare your deductions to the average deductions taken by taxpayers in your income bracket. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

New York HIV case may not be harbinger of "supervirus"
Did last week's report that a New York gay man had been infected with an HIV superstrain hearld the emergence of a new, more virulent epidemic? Maybe not:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The virulent and highly drug-resistant case of AIDS recently found in a New York City man is similar in some ways to two Canadian cases that appeared in 2001 and did not lead to the spread of a "supervirus," as some fear may happen in New York.
The Canadian cases turned out to be readily treatable despite their worrisome features. The infected patients -- two men who had no contact with each other -- are alive and in good health, said the physician who treated them. He originally described the unusual findings two years ago in a medical journal.
[...][pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The dramatic downhill course the New York patient took could have meant that his HIV was especially virulent, but it could equally reflect preexisting weakness in his immune system that has nothing to do with the strain of virus.
"We know the whole progression to disease is multifactorial. It has to do with the patient, and it has to do with the virus. We don't know yet why some viruses cause rapid disease and some don't," said Miguel Quiones-Mateu, a virologist at the Cleveland Clinic.

Court says web publishers not liable for visitors' comments

Web site operators are not liable for electronic messages posted by anonymous visitors, even if the content of the postings is intentionally malicious or potentially libelous, an appeals court ruled Monday.

Was she offended or titillated?

In defense of Gallagher
You are by now aware of the story, but here's the recap:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In 2002, syndicated columnist Maggie Gallagher repeatedly defended President Bush's push for a $300 million initiative encouraging marriage as a way of strengthening families.
[...][pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
But Gallagher failed to mention that she had a $21,500 contract with the Department of Health and Human Services to help promote the president's proposal.
In her own defense, Ms. Gallagher wrote today:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
To me, this is an extremely serious charge. It is also completely false. I was not paid to promote the Presidents marriage proposal. In 2001 I was approached by HHS to do research and writing, not on the Presidents $300 million marriage initiative, but on marriage: specifically four brochures on the social science evidence on the benefits of marriage for populations serviced by HHS (such as unwed parents), a draft of an essay for Wade Horn, and a training presentation on the social science evidence on the benefits of marriage for regional HHS managers.
Anybody who's familiar with her work knows that Ms. Gallagher has been writing for years about marriage and families. Here's a piece she authored in 1997 -- well before the Bush administration came to town -- calling for an end to no-fault divorce. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
She's a writer, a social scientist and a policy expert. She didn't go to the Government; it came to her. And she wasn't paid to write in favor of a particular program or piece of legislation. She was paid to write broadly about the benefits of marriage.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
But Ms. Gallagher does have a syndicated column -- wherein, to my knowledge, she's never written about anything other than marriage and families -- and so I suppose that makes her a "journalist," broadly defined, which means she should have disclosed when she got a Government contract. But as she notes:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
It is not uncommon for researchers, scholars, or experts to get paid by the government to do work relating to their field of expertise. Nor is it considered unethical or shady: if anything, government funded work is considered a mark of an experts respectability. Until today, researchers and scholars have not generally been expected to disclose a government-funded research project in the past, when they later wrote about their field of expertise in the popular press or in scholarly journals.
For these reasons, it simply never occurred to me there was a need to disclose this information. I certainly had no intention or motive to hide my work from anyone. As a journalist, however, when the question is raised "Should you have disclosed?" the answer is always, yes. It was a mistake on my part not to have disclosed any government contract. It will not happen again.
I believe that it just never occurred to her to disclose, and I believe she won't make the same "mistake" again. I hope we let that be the end of it.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Stick figure drawings get two boys charged with felony
Good grief:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Two boys were arrested for making pencil-and-crayon stick figure drawings depicting a 10-year-old classmate being stabbed and hung, police said. The children, charged with a felony, were taken from school in handcuffs.
The 9- and 10-year-old boys were arrested Monday and charged with making a written threat to kill or harm another person. They were also suspended from school.
One drawing showed the two boys standing on either side of the other boy and "holding knives pointed through" his body, according to a police report. The figures were identified by written names or initials.
A felony? For stick figure drawings by 10 year-old boys?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Sex crimes: going beyond the 'Full Monty'
Houston Chronicle:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Nonetheless, the issue [allowing cops to get naked to make arrests for prostitution] has been divisive in many communities, particularly in cases in which officers have allowed prostitutes to touch their genitals or have engaged in sex acts with prostitutes.
Houston police, who are now disrobing to get prostitutes to negotiate a sale price, insist they will not bone the ones they arrest. But I say if you bake a pie, somebody is going to have a slice.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Blogging etiquette: the vacant trackback
In the past, it happened only rarely and I just ignored it. But now it happens a little more often. I refer here to "vacant trackbacks," the practicing of pinging a blog without making any reference to it in the entry from which the ping is sent.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
This morning I followed a trackback to my post on Mississippi abortion clinics. But the entry to which the trackback took me makes no mention whatsoever of either my post or my blog. So why did the author ping? Beats me.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
If you write something in response to what another blogger has written and you want to draw the other blogger's attention to your work, just send him an e-mail; don't send him a vacant trackback. Trackbacks are used to give credit where it's due or to expand discussion of a post. Accordingly, any time you send a trackback, your own entry should include a hyperlink to the post to which you're tracking back. Otherwise, there is no point in it.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
I've already deleted this morning's vacant trackback, and henceforth that's what I'll do with any others I get. If you just want me to read your post, send an e-mail and ask. I'll be glad to do it.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Conservative students protest liberal indoctrination
There's a new push for diversity and academic freedom in the classroom, but this time it's coming from conservatives:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In many ways, the trend echoes past campus conflicts but turns them around. Once, it was liberal campus activists who cited the importance of "diversity" in pressing their agendas for curriculum change. Now, conservatives have adopted much of the same language in calling for a greater openness to their viewpoints.

Gay men in Canada hit by deadly bacterial outbreak
CTV Canada is reporting a deadly outbreak of meningococcal C infections among gay men:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
A deadly bacterial infection outbreak has medical officials in B.C. urging gay men there to get vaccinated against it.
"We think we're seeing the beginning of an outbreak in gay men in B.C. and if we nip it in the bud, we can save a lot of people some grief," said Dr. David Patrick of the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
Since October, three men have died as a result of meningococcal C disease. Four others have become ill but recovered.
There have been 19 cases detected all year. Sixteen of those occurred in men.
The infection, caused by the meningococcus bacterium, can strike very suddenly. It can cause brain damage and death. Symptoms include high fever, headache and a stiff neck.
The culprit, meningococcus bacterium, is spread by saliva.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Army court overturns sodomy conviction
Washington Post:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
A military appeals court has overturned the conviction of a soldier for consensual sodomy in a decision that gay rights activists are hailing as an important legal victory removing some of the barriers to homosexual activity in the armed forces.
The decision from the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals comes in the case of United States v. Bullock.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Interestingly, the case itself does not involve homosexual conduct. Kenneth Bullock, an Army specialist, was convicted of violating Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice after receiving a blow job in military barracks from a female civilian.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
From the transcript:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
MJ: So you had sexual intercourse with her in the
barracks' room and during the course of having
intercourse with her you had oral sodomy with her?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
ACC: Yes, ma'am.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
MJ: Tell me exactly what part of your body went into
what opening in her body?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
ACC: My penis into her mouth, ma'am.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
MJ: And you actually penetrated her mouth with your
penis?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
ACC: Yes, ma'am.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
MJ: Do you agree that, as I read that definition to you,
that was unnatural carnal copulation?[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
ACC: Yes, ma'am.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
It might be "unnatural carnal copulation," but there is some evidence, now old, that Republicans -- or at least Republicans of college age -- do not believe that oral sex is really sex.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Excesses of the PC: the transgendered Muslim
[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In an otherwise unnotable fluff piece on homosexuals Muslims, the Houston Voice, a gay weekly, demonstrates the stupefying, reality-averse lengths to which political correctness now goes:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
In many countries where religion is the law, being gay can carry a heavy sentence. Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people who are discovered are imprisoned, tortured, and killed. [italics added]
For the uninitiated, a transvestite (see Tim Curry, left, as Dr. Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show) is a person who adopts the dress and mannerisms of the opposite sex. A transsexual (or "transgendered person"), on the other hand, is one who identifies with the opposite sex so strongly as to undergo medical treatment -- often culminating in surgical removal of the twig and berries -- to change his physical appearance. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
Although figures are unavailable -- a Google search was fruitless (no pun intended) -- I'm thinking that post-operative transsexuals are unknown to Muslim societies. Of all the things for which, say, Saudi Arabia is known, sex reassignment surgery isn't one of them. [pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
For reasons that even I as a gay man cannot explain, "transgendered persons" are now considered part of the gay and lesbian community; accordingly, the diversity-worshipping PC requires that all references to gays and lesbians incorporate not only the "bisexual," but also the "transgendered." This is true even when, as in the case of the transgendered Muslim, the reference is absurd on its face.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

From humble origins: the stories of the Bush cabinet
According to the Chicago Tribune, most of Mr. Bush's cabinet appointees share in common a personal trait: grit.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
If there is a pattern in President Bush's choices for key posts in his second term, it's that the people he has selected often have extraordinary personal stories of having succeeded after overcoming great obstacles.
[...][pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
The president hails from an elite family and attended Yale and Harvard Universities. But he was raised in West Texas and appears drawn to people whose life stories show they achieved beyond most expectations, say experts who have studied Bush's presidency and life.
My favorite story is of the cabinet nominee who was abandoned in early childhood by his mother, a convicted prostitute. But he made it anyway.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver

Prison pulls violent video games
Inmates at a maximum-security prison in Missouri can no longer play video games "in which players use everything from meat hooks to silencer-equipped pistols to carry out brutal contract killings," among other things.[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
According to one criminal justice professor:[pP]>samsung sgh-p510 irda driver
